I'm developing a technical manual that will have > 1,000 pages......wil MS
Word work for this application? The manual will have illustrations and text.
CUrrently using Arbortext [sgml] and looking for an alternate product.

Technical writers have reported using Word for documents upwards of 10,000
pages. Adding illustrations will affect performance somewhat; be sure you
have plenty of RAM and available HD space. When possible, insert the
illustrations inline and use "picture placeholders" (Tools | Options | View)
to represent them except when you're actually working with them. Working in
Normal view also helps, especially if you disable background repagination.
