MS word 2007 can not read MS word 2003

I have read through the discussion board and have tried them all and none has
work thus far. Maybe there is something that I am missing. Can someone please
help me to open and read a Word 2003 document with the 2007 version I have?
The explanation probably has to be elementary...lol
I have: Vista, Ms Office (student edition) 2007. Trying to read XP (it was
created on this OS), Ms Office (student edition) 2003
 
Word 2007 should have no problems opening a Word 2003 document. Select Open
from the Office Button and pick the document from those available.

How are you trying to read the document, and what happens when you
try?

Do you have this problem with one specific document, or with all .doc
files?
