I have just received an email from MS (?) that says: "From: Microsoft

Subject: Use this patch immediately !

Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now!
There are dangerous virus in the Internet now!
More than 500.000 already infected!"

I presume it is referring to Blaster but I am suspicious of the wording of
the message. ( i.e.. I have no known "friends" at MS)
I saved the message onto a floppy & ran AVG & Symantec's virus pgms & got
one positive reaction from the software survey. I do not know how sure my
scanning was but no need to take a chance on anything right now.

Now my question is how much credence should I put into the validity of the
message? Is there any probability that it is a legitimate message from MS.
Is there a way that I might find out where it came from. Using the
Properties of the message built into MS Outlook there is no indication the
email is from anyone but MS. Suggestions on attempting to find out its
source?.....................Thanks

KV,
Microsoft DOES NOT SEND OUT EMAILS ABOUT VIRUSES. Only
use updates or patches from the web site and or from the
web site of you Virus programs web site.

There is an alert on the MS web page that specifies that
they will NEVER send updates via e-mail...this is listed
as a new hoax...so I wouldn't do anything with that,
expect delete it....d
