I posted this previously, and never received a reply ...
maybe I'll have better luck this time.
In Microsoft Software Update Service after synchronizing,
I attempt to approve the updates,
and receive the following error:

Hi Jeremy,

Have you tried the SUS newsgroup? It is monitored by MS folks.

microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

I googled that group with your question and got this:

"Troubleshooting this problem, I discovered that somewhere
along the line the vb scripting engine got hosed or
something and the vbscript.dll needed to be re-registered
with regsvr32.

Command Prompt>regsvr32 vbscript.dll"

Here is whole thing:

Hi Jeremy,

Do yo have the Exchange installed on the same server? Do you also enabled
the Outlook Web Access of the Exchange? If yes, you may encounter the
problem.

To solve the problem, let's try the following steps.

1. Using the Internet Service Manager, access the properties of the
"Exchange" application/virtual directory from the web site OWA is
configured on.

2. On the 'virtual directory' tab click the 'configuration' button.

3. Select the 'App Options' tab, and place a check mark back into the
options labelled 'Enable session state' and 'enable paren paths'.

It's better to install the SUS on a clean Windows 2000 server. Here is the
recommendations for installing Microsoft SUS.

I do not use Exchange, and no, no e-mail sys tem is
installed on this server. In fact the only other web
service installed is McAfee ePolicy Orchistrator, which is
configured to use different ports than SUS, and as far as
I can tell doesn't use java at all. Any other ideas?

Hi Jeremy,

Do you have the Windows 2000 SP4 installed? If not, please install it first
and see whether this works.

If it does not work, I think we can try the following plan:

1- remove msus- reboot
2- uninstall iis- reboot
3- install iis- all defaults
4- reapply Windows 2000 sp4- reboot-
5- install sus- all defaults.

If this still does not work, please reply the post and I will continue to
help you.

Sincerely,
