MS Spyware turnoff

I'm running uptodate version 1.0.615 Definitions 5737 of
Ms Anti Spyware but some thing or programme keeps turning
it off. I see the tray icon and turn it on again but am
unable to track down culprit. Anyone any ideas? grateful
for suggestions.
 
How do you become aware that it is turned off?

What do you do to turn it on?

My immediate thought is scan with an up to date antivirus, perhaps one of
the online scanners, but maybe there's something simpler going on.

Tried running the malscan after rebooting into Safe Mode? Tried using
other anti-malware scanners, like Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, and SpyWARE
Doctor (not Spy Doctor which is rogueware)? Ran a full scan using a
recently updated anti-virus program?
 
It is a virus that is not allowing it to run. Does it
happen when you try to run AV software as well, or
HiJackThis or any other program that would be used to get
rid of a virus and/or spyware? If that is the case, go
into the processes tab (while in Safe Mode) and 'kill' any
process that is causing programs like MS AS and such to
stop working when you try to run them. I had a problem
like this at work (Im a PC Technician,) and I had to
download a 3rd party process and startup viewer so that I
could see and 'kill' the processes that were causing this
behavior.
