I just recently found my Sidewinder Game Controller and I plugged it in and
the light comes up green on the controller, but it doesnt show up in Game
Contollers and under Device Manager is says PCI Input Device witht he Yellow
symbol and drivers will not work. Any ideas?

Install the gameport controller drivers. If the port is on the soundcard
then they're included with the soundcard drivers. If its on the motherboard,
look at the motherboard manufacturer's website.

go to control panel/ game controllers/ add / scroll down to Microsoft
sidewinder auto detect select and click ok and it should work now. Then
config and test... now have fun.

Hi psyfi,
From your description I am guessing you are using a USB device. My
recommendation would be to find updated drivers for your USB controller.

This definitely does not work. You just get a piece of 'not connected'
hardwae and no way of getting to Properties to configure it. This is a well
known fact that MSD does not support Sidewinder in XP.

Rick, I use both USB and gameport controllers, and can tell you the
information you've been given here does work. Now, which controller,
specifically, do you have?

If you have a USB model, plug it in. The system should recognize it
instantly and ask you for the drivers.

If you have a gameport model, plug it in, go into Control Panel/Game
Controllers, select the Add button on the first screen, on the next screen
scroll down to Microsoft SideWinder (Auto Detect), highlight it, then select
the OK button.

The system will install the drivers for you. The gameport controller
software is not supported on Windows XP, however the system will install the
proper software for its operations. You will not be able to create
"profiles" in Game Controllers any more, but if the games support saving the
settings, you'll have the same thing.
