MS screwed again?

I am being spammed as I write this, in my 2 hotmail accounts by this same email message which has been sent around 20 times to each account so far.

I haven't blocked it yet, as an experiment. Here's the headers and the message - 1kb each message.

How about the =full= headers, which would show where this really came
from?

I have received a number of these same emails. Since I know that MS does not email security updates to the hundreds of millions of users around the world, I can only conclude that no good can come from running the attachment. So I just delete the email, and add the subject to my Kill File.

That's the right thing to do. Except that this string of mails had no
attachment. The mail was 1kb, that's it. Thanks for your thoughts, both of
you; time to go back to my John Grisham now.

The message is legitimate - it is not clear how it has got out in
multiple versions. If you use Windows Messenger, I would update to the
latest version: Go to messenger.msn.com and take the 'Windows Messenger
for Windows XP' on the left, and the Download now button there. NOT the
immediate Download on the front page, which installs MSN messenger - a
slightly different program

It doesn't seem to be a legitimate message, it just links to Microsoft's
site, and I have never seen such a message so far for any security update
coming via email. I use Trillian Pro; I MSN's Messenger 6 seems to be too
gaudy. Plus I can sign into multiple Hotmail, Yahoo and ICQ accounts at
once.

Nah, Trillians just as gaudy as msn *mess*enger, and isn't the easiest IM
client to use (it's also starting to become as bloated as the other proprietary
clients).
Hey OP...try Gaim <www.gaim.sf.net> , works fine on XPee (though file sending
is still being worked on). It also allows you to have all protocols used at one
time, creating a tab for each conversation/protocol. Easy on the eyes, and easy
to use.

I favour Microsoft's messenger(s). Trillian seems to be focused more on
excessive customization than an easy to use interface. In other words, the
author forgot the number one programming rule: Keep It Simple Stupid!

That link of yours doesn't work. Trillian is neither bloated nor difficult
to use.. Gaim is 6+ MB and Trillian is less than 3MB. If you see the website
file sharing might not work - it's for Linux freaks like you who don't have
a choice.

Oops...didn't need the 'www'...it's <http://gaim.sf.net>

When I first found out about Trillian, I advised all my customers to try/use
it, over the other (windows) clients out there. None of them liked it, because
it was far too *unintuitive*. Yeah, they made a 'do all' client, but it looks
and acts like they just threw it in a blender and hoped for the best after 10
minutes on puree.

As for the size, the GTK+ is what makes it big. The actual client itself is
about the same size as the download for Linux. Even if the GTK+ does make the
download bigger, it's no worse than downloading anything else for windows...if
it's a necessary component in *any* app, it will need to be downloaded no
matter what. I just upgraded my kernel...13MB. How big did you say SP1 was? LOL

Linux freaks? ROFL!! You dumbass. I used windows from '95 - '00 (and a shared
Amiga long before that, and Trash-80 even longer before that). At least I seem
to have the ability to use more than one OS, all you can do is get your panties
in a wad when someone has a conflicting opinion about an app for windows since
it's all you seem to be able to operate and apologize for.

Your little temper tantrum about choice is ****ed up too. Sourceforge.net has
190 projects for AOL chat clients (some are 'do alls', some are for windows
only, most are for linux, some aren't done/ready for use yet, some are plugins
for certain of those clients).
180 projects for ICQ chat clients (same as above in the ()'s). Then there's all
the Jabber clients.
I'd say I've got plenty of choice you idiot.
If I want to use file-sharing, I *prefer* secure-ftp (got a shitload of secure
ftp clients too for linux...how many you got?), but have simple file-sharing
from the desktop too, though I tried it once, I didn't feel at all comfortable
doing so and turned it off before the other person I was sharing with (an XPee
user btw) could do anything with it. Then of course there's all the P2P apps I
could use for file-sharing with a friend. Or TightVNC (which filesharing works,
but is still in beta IIRR), or IRC (there's a shitload of those for linux too,
many are secure too).
Now, here's the part that's gonna chap your ass...with the distro I use
(SuSE), the boxed set of CD's/DVD's came with a sysadmin manual, a users
manual, ~9 chat clients to choose from, ~12 IRC clients and at least a couple
thousand more apps I could use/try. I didn't/don't have to download anything
unless it's just something special or something different I want to take a look
at. That's a whole lot more that I *don't* have to download to use than you can
say about windows. So, in the long run, you're the one downloading a lot more
than me (or having to buy the CD with the app on it). I'd say your petulant
argument was weaker than water now.
