Paint has disappeared from my pc.
I have tried to download a new copy from Microsoft and after hours of
searching can't find where to get a cop. No I don't wish to ever again erase
my copy of XP and reinstall it.

What do you mean disappeared? Did you just lose the shortcut or the whole
program?

Search for *.LNK to locate shortcuts. A shortcut that's accidentally been
relocated can be found this way - drag and drop it back to the location
that you want it at.

Or find mspaint.exe and create a new shortcut for it. Drag and drop this
shortcut to the desired location.

No need to reinstall Windows if only Paint is missing. Instead reinstall
Paint. To do this, you'll need your XP CD (not an OEM recovery CD). Some
OEMs place an "i386" folder on the hard drive that contains some or all of
the installation files. That folder can be used in place of the XP CD.

Open Control Panel. Go to:
Add/Remove Programs> Add/Remove Windows Components> Accessories and
Utilities> Accessories> Paint

If there is a check in the box, remove it and click OK. This "uninstalls"
Paint. Then go back and replace the check and click OK to install. The
required program files will be added back to your hard drive and the
shortcut will be restored.

MSPaint, the application, is in Windows>System32 folder. And Search has
saved me several times. If you don't have it in above-mentioned folder,
oops... Time for re-download as others have suggested. If you do, create
shortcuts for it and place where wanted.

Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, click the Add/Remove Windows
components button in the left pane. Locate Accessories and Utilities,
double-click, do the same with Accessories, deselect Paint, close the
applet. Go back in and add Paint.
