I have a problem with Office 2000 and Windows Installer and here is how I
solved my problem:
I solved part of my problem! Here is the solution for recover Office 2000
access (people outhere are saying that Microsoft´s hotfix Q823980 and the
new hotfix Q824146 are causing this problem with Windows Installer. Windows
SP3 and sometimes Windows SP4 could cause this too!):
IMPORTANT!!! BACKUP YOUR DATA FIRST!!!
1) Click Startup Menu
2) Click Run
3) Type Regedit
4) Click OK. Registry Editor will open and let's backup all Windows registry
first.
5) In the top of the registry tree, click My Computer.
6) Click Registry menu
7) Click Export registry file. Choose hard-disk root C: and type a name for
the backup file.
8) Click Save.
9) Click Edit.
10) Click Find.
11) Type the word Patches and only select KEY check box
(turn off value and data check boxes).
12) Find each Patches word and renamed it to the word REMOVED. If you want
to backup too each Patches' branch follow 6 to 8 step above before rename
it.
13) IMPORTANT: DO NOT rename AppPatches word.
14) After rename all words only called Patches to REMOVED, close Registry
Editor. You do not need to restart Windows.
15) Put you original software CD in the driver.
16) You can reinstall the software or you can click each shortcut already
installed and wait for Windows Installer recover all pieces of software.
Some Office setup ask you to type the CD-KEY application code again.
It works for me! I have access to all Office applications
If something
goes wrong just Import your registry backup (or the branches backup if you
made it) using REGEDIT.

IMPORTANT!!! If you have Windows Installer 2.0 ou higher in your machine, DO
NOT INSTALL AND USE THE FOLLOWING MICROSOFT TOOLS: MSICU.EXE, MSICUU.EXE and
WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEAN-UP. They will only works with Windows Installer
Release 1.1.

Properties, I saw in profile tab a profile called NT Authority/System. I
deleted it and now my Windows did not give to me access to all active
directory shortcuts. My Office 2000 did not work too and, when I click in
Excel or Word icon, the Windows Installer ask for the software CD-ROM. When
I put the CD-ROM and click OK the following message appears:
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package
exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."
Two days before I deleted that profile I saw an "user" folder COMPUTERNAME$
inside Documents and Settings folder, where COMPUTERNAME is my computer's
name. After deleted NT Authority/System profile this COMPUTERNAME$ folder
disappears too.
I saw online this Microsoft document:

My questions are:
1) Do I need a NT Authority/System profile?
2) How to recovery it?
Additional Info:
I did not see the famous windows "NT Authority will log them off in x
minutes and that they should close all programs", so I think it was not a
virus.

Hi All,
I meet some big problem on MS Office 2000, I already installed Windows 2000
Professional and connected our Windows 2000 Server. I can use MS Office 2000
when I am using Local Administrators Group Users, but I can't open use MS
Office 2000, it displays likely message "Error 1706, Not Found MS Office
2000 Standard Source. Windows installer can't process.." when I am using
normal domain users account login Windows 2000 Professional.
Please help ..
