I recently installed a Turtle Beach Montego sound card. It's a little
tricky to configure and not as good as their former Santa Cruz sound card,
which has been discontinued. After installing I started hearing faint
popping and crackling noises coming from my 4 speakers. It usually occurs
when I am using the mouse and sometimes just holding the mouse. At times I
hear the noises when not even using the mouse. I have disconnected the
microphone and have separated the speaker wires from the mouse cord and
electrical line. It was suggested that the speakers were too close to the
monitor, I have moved them away but the noise continues. The sound from
videos and CDs is fine. When booting up there is one loud POP. I now turn
off the sound when shutting down and/or starting up. Any idea on how to
resolve this bug-a-boo. Thanks.

Check the internal cables.

Also, it is known that the power supplies can also cause the noise
that the sound card might be detecting.

Check the 'playback' mixer settings, that you've muted the microphone
input and disabled other unused sources.

i need a sound card for a dell dimension 310

Start a new thread, to ask your question again.

Verify the model number of your computer.

*******

The model number might be 3100 or E310 for example.

In the picture of your motherboard, there are two
PCI slots (item 13) and a single PCI Express x1 slot
(item 12). If you want a sound card, you should be
able to put one in whatever slot is empty right
now. So first, have a look inside your computer,
to see if there is room for a new card. It
could be that something is in the way, and may
conflict with your plan.

Sound cards start at $7.50, so you don't have to pay
a lot to get a card. Pick one that has good reviews
and lots of happy customers. I'm using a card
related to one of those 47.50 ones, and have been
using it for years. Not a great card, but better
than the motherboard sound. The hardest part for
me, was finding a good driver to use.
