Slightly off topic I know but I'am sure someone here will know the
answer.
How do I disable MS messenger?
I know I need it for email etc. but when I log my three year old son on
for him to play games, Bl***y messenger keeps trying to dial up and so
crashes the game.
If I do ctl,alt,del and end msmgr.exe it still comes back!
Kev.

Miles off topic, but I'm not sure you need it at all! It was the first
thing I removed when I installed XP Pro.

To get rid of Messenger altogether:

Open C:\WINDOWS\inf\sysoc.inf and change
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 to
msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,,7
Then use Add/Remove Windows Components to uninstall Messenger.

Go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services.
Select Messenger, right-click and select Properties and choose Disabled as
the "Startup type."
