Dunno if this is illegal, unethical, or just true enterprise at work ..
From the readme.
------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the binary edition of ConvertLit 1.5
MAJOR CHANGE:
To properly handle DRM5 protected LIT files, you MUST have the
supplied "drm5hook.dll" in the same directory as your "clit.exe".
Please note that if this version fails to convert a DRM5 protected
title, you may have success leaving MSREADER running while you run
"clit".
This is a minor release to workaround incompatibilities introduced with
activation updates. Those updates check certain Windows elements that
MSREADER creates. This release also addresses the checks against the
largely undocumented Program Environment Block while still maintaining
compatibility with earlier operating systems.
LICENSING NOTE:
Note that ConvertLit 1.5 is distributed under the GPL. You can find the
ConvertLit source code at
http://members.lycos.co.uk/hostintheshell
Please distribute this binary archive with the source code archive
whenever
possible.
BUGS:
Support for the new Microsoft Reader file format is limited since we
have no mechanism for creating files for this version.
This version will write files out in the "old" format in general,
although
some fields still may have incorrect data. Please contact us if the
converted files aren't accessible on your PPC device.
Clit will acquire the focus from the current window, and will not
return it when it exits.
USAGE:
This program is and will likely remain a console application.
This program has three modes of operation:
First, is ** EXPLOSION **, or the expanding of a .LIT file into an
OEBPS compliant package.
To explode, you type: clit <litfile.lit> <directory to explode into>\
For Example:
clit ebook-propietary.lit ebook-oebps\
If the directory does not exist, you MUST put a trailing \ or / after it!
Second, is the DOWNCONVERTING of a .LIT file down to "Sealed",
or DRM1 format for reading on handheld devices.
To downconvert, you type: clit <litfile.lit> <newlitfile.lit>
For Example:
clit "drm5 ebook.lit" ebook-open.lit
Third, is the INSCRIBING of a .LIT file which allows you to label
your ebooks. This is very similar to downconverting, you just add
a third argument: clit <litfile.lit> <newlitfile.lit> <inscription>
For example:
clit ebook.lit inscribed.lit "the Mixed-Up Library of Basil Frankweiler"
DRM5 is supported IF you have an activated copy of MS Reader.
You must run this program ON THE SAME MACHINE that is licensed for the
content. This is a tool for **YOUR OWN FAIR USE** and not for stealing
other people's ebooks.
Please do not use this program to distribute illegal copies of ebooks.
... that would make Baby Jesus sad.
