Have not been using the Driver with XP but dnloaded the latest V5.0 and
install it, but it keeps coming up with a error, sort of every 10-15 Mins and
reports back to MS with the error.

Even tried a remove and reinstall and got the same problem.

I am not using USB but as a PS2 Mouse..

**** Tested as a USB Mouse and get the same problem.****

Have now tested to see how often it can send a report back to MS, over 5
reports its every 12 mins, the software resets its self when it does this.

Is this version buggy ? as I have now removed it again..

Any Clues..?

A lot of people complained about this version. Most suggested to go back to
version 4.1.

I had problems with version 5 too, until I read that "Terminal Services"
need to be set on Automatic, so that it's running at all times. I did that
and haven't had a problem since.

But what does Terminal Services has to do with a Mouse as no reference is
made to it in the description..?

Were did you find the reference to this.,.?

I have no idea why Terminal Services would affect Intellipoint 5.0 but it
does. I read about it in Microsoft.public.mshardware.product newsgroup on
10/24/03. It's intitled: "*FOUND FIX* IntelliPoint". Here's a brief quote:
If you are having a problem with the
IntelliPoint / IntelliType software not responding (freezing your system
when you try to type, none of the media keys work, tilt wheel doesn't work,
etc.), and/or you get a "Runtime Error" after a few minutes, and/or you have
to manually terminate type32.exe / point32.exe when shutting down, then I
think you might be thankful to receive this information. And here it
is......

"Terminal Services" must be enabled, somehow it has been
disabled, probably because you are a system tweaker like myself. Go into
"Administrative Tools -> Services," double click on "Terminal Services," and
set the "Startup type" to "Automatic." If you want to get it working
without having to reboot first, then click on Start after selecting
Automatic and run type32.exe and/or point32.exe.

I hope this helps.

Thanks.

Yes it does but has introduced another simple problem, every ? mins the log
on screen comes up Under the Blank screen saver and I have to click onto the
User Icon to get back to the Windows screen.

The System is set up for a single user with no log on screen at all, but
after adding the .NET option it now come up with the user logon screen at boot
up.

When you go into your Screen Saver setup screen, do you have "on resume,
password protect" checked? If so, uncheck that option and it probably won't
do that any longer.

I never new about that option in the Screen saver and I don't know how it was
ticked..

But all is OK now..

I do have another problem that is going to be a Devil to find, System has been
running for some 9 months or more OK except for some damaged that was caused
to XPSP1 when I lost Power to all my Hard Drives, but even then I never ever
got any lock ups even after the damage, the system ran with the damage still
in.

The Damage was no Printer or Scanners would show, (But they worked ) Date/Time
would stuff up on the change of the month, could not install a Modem or Dialup
and no System Info, the System Info was fixed from the Info I found on the MS
site, this was due to a corrupt file, this was fixed by deleting this file as
the system recreates it.

But now after say the 4 th clean Install of XP and a new 420W PSU, Thermaltake
brand, I get lock ups..

99 % are soon after a cold start, most are 10mins or more after the
desktop, even if I do not do a thing, but I do not get them as far as I can
tell after a Warm start ( Reset)..

I have tried removing all unnecessary tasks from the System tray and tried
using different drivers, the only thing that is could be is all the XP
updates..

Due you have any clues..?

The only thing is to do a clean install and try it with out any Applications
loaded, then load some at a time, but this will take weeks to diagnose..

Unless I can run some thing like a Dr Watson etc..

What I would do is do a "repair" install of Windows. Boot from the CD and
start the installation process. Continue past the first place where it asks
you if you want to repair installation. At the second prompt for a Windows
repair accept that and it will completely re-do your installation without
losing any files. You will need to re-install any updates (including sp1)
again. For detailed instructions, please see:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

To prevent future problems, I'd recommend using a UPS (Uninterruptible
Power Supply) to prevent future loses due to power glitches.

Thanks Sam

I do have a slipstream version of XP SP1 that I made.

The Problem was not the Mains but some thing went wrong with the PSU, that is
why a bought a Thermaltake 420w

The PC would boot and could not find the Hard Drives, the Hard Drives are
connected to the Raid controller as a ATA 100 Drives, none raid..

After messing around with cables and unplugging drives it cleared its self,
but with some damaged files.

But I suspected the low grade PSU that was fitted to this Icute case..

Now that you have the power problems taken care of, you still should do a
"repair" installation to make sure that your OS is complete and whole.
