akk.. they make me into an addict.. and then it stops working..

my company issue Freecell suddenly stopped working this week..
I tried deleting it, rebooting and then reinstalling it from the Cd but
its still broken.. Its actually off the Win98SE disk..

I figured some support file must be broken, perhaps by something new I
installed..

any ideas??

Are you running Norton Internet Security? If so, try disabling it and see
what happens with FreeCell.

Do you get an error message? Do you have Office XP installed?

hello Geoff...
no I don't have office XP..
I'm runing Windows 98 and trying to run the original Freecell that came
on the disk..

I thought maybe a file had become corrupted, so I deleted all the games
(through add/remove software) and then installed them again..

I don't get an error message, the game window comes up, but the hand
never deals.. instead I get the hourglass whenever my mouse pointer is
over the game area.. if I point at the menus, they work, I can deal a
new hand, but I can't play the hand I deal.. as soon as the mouse
pointer moves over the playing area, I get the hourglass again..

I'm wondering if something else I install replaced on of the vb files or
dll files that is vital to the Freecell games.. do you know which
resource files it uses??

confused

ps. I know this is supposed to be a win2000 group but I couldn't find a
group for win98 .. sorry..

Sounds like something you have running (probably loading during
startup/bootup) is causing a conflict. With Win98, an easy solution would
be to reboot, then press CTRL+ALT+Delete and End Task everything except
Explorer and Systray. Then retry the game. Presumably, it will work just
fine. Then, it's just a matter of determining which item you End Tasked
that is causing the conflict.

yeah Geoff!!!
I ended up reconfiguring without two things in my list..
an eventmonitor thing from Real Player, and a component from my logitech
mouse drivers.. I think it was the drivers that were the culprit..

my Freecell now works.. Yeah!!
thanks much

Helen, I'm glad to hear that. My first guess would be the RealPlayer
eventmonitor.
