Hi,
I just got Samsung ML 1710 laser printer 4 days back.

It prints from all application except from MS Excel (Part of Office
XP).

When I ask Excel to print document it goes thru, even small printer
icon appears on bottom right tray on screen and then disappears in 2-3
seconds as if printing is finished but printer doesn't do anything (no
hum.. no movements.. nothing). It happens only with Excel Documents.

Samsung tried to help but then said problem is not with their printer
but with Excel.

Configuration is as follows.
Samsung ML 1710 printer driver version is 5.10
USB 1.1 port
OS: Windows XP Professional with SP1 (5.1.2600 Service Pack 1
Build2600)
Application: MS EXCEL 2002 SP2 (10.4302.4219) SP2
Configuration of PC is, Pentium III 650 Mhz, Asus CUBX motherboard
with 128mb SDRAM.

Let me know if any of you can help me.

They're right - this problem has been raised here with
other printers, too.

I suggest you go to support.microsoft.com, and do a search.
By this time MS should have some sort of fix for it. I'll
leave the search terms up to you. :-)

Good luck!

Couple of questions and a comment:

1. Does Excel construct a print preview of the document when the printer
is properly selected? If it does, then there is generally no problem
with the printer.
2. Is the document at other than 100% zoom (no zoom)? Zooming a
worksheet is implicated in many printing problems with Excel.
3. Will Excel print a small selection of the worksheet? If so, then the
printer is probably OK.

Lastly, Excel is perhaps the most notorious memory hog of any
application, and for XP, 128MB of RAM is going to be inadequate, 256MB
is workable, but 512MB is desireable. You might try turning down video
acceleration a notch or two and see if there is any improvement. It
sometimes helps with failed Excel processes. However, with the low
computer RAM, it is not possible to separate the machine from the
printer in this issue, IMO.
