MS DOS window (command prompt) hangs up, after kept open for a long
time.

I work in the Network Management Domain. I use the command prompt
mostly to telnet to networking devices or ping them. I usually find
that If my cmd prompt is kep open for a long time without any activity
(say 4-5 hours), it hangs up. The window gets frozen and I will not be
able to 'end' it up from Task Manager. I will not be even able to
'shutdown' or 'restart' my computer, as the OS keeps waiting for this
window to be closed. I finally end up in 'hard shut down' of my pc - I
definitely need to push my computer's power button to kill it.

Any workaround, suggestion, experience would be of great help.

Thanks,
Dhandapani

- What exactly is the command you run to launch a Command Prompt?
- What are the details of the command processor you use? (File
date stamp, size)
- Does the problem occur in Safe Mode too?
