Is there a way, to make my Epson Printer work with an MS-DOS
Program under Windows (XP, 98SE, ME) ?

I heard, that - if the printer (or the driver) doesn't support it - it is
not possible.

Is there eventually another printer I could use (must be "new", i.e.
available in
shops)

Thanks

Martin,
I recently had the need to attempt the same thing but did not find
a way. The nearest I came was following the information which says; Go
to 'My Computer' click on 'Printers' and then 'Add Printer/Network
Printer/Next you will then be asked 'Do you print from MS-DOS-based
programs?' and follow it from there. What to do if you do not have a
Network Printer but a Local Printer I have not figured out. It does
seem a bit strange not to allow DOS printing under all conditions.

What kinds of printer does your DOS app support?
If it can print to PostScript (many can) see
<http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/wpdos/anyprinter.html> which
tells you how to print from WordPerfect DOS, but is applicable to any
app.

Does it print just plain text (typewriter-style) or formatted,
graphics?
If it's just text, there are several methods, such as PrintFile

The cheapest printers are mostly "Winprinters" -- they need a Windows
driver. If it says on the box "requires Windows ##" then that's
probably what it is. One that supports PCL &/or PostScript will work
directly with DOS apps.
