I've tried to work with winxp's dos and I can't figure out how I could make
my old games work... Is there a kind of ms-dos emulator which doesn't reboot
my system when I press any key.

Many thanx

You have to understand the NT kernel does not allow hardware access, and this is
what a lot of dos games try to do.

So the short answer is no.

That sill shouldn't make him crash, though. It should just throw an
exception and give him an error. He can't do what he wants to, but it
sounds like there is a config problem of some sort.

Yes, maybe that game (prehistorik 2)
Needs some kind of config I really don't know/remember...
It doesn't work even under dosbox. But under dosbox, i've played Superfrog,
and that's a good step...

xp doesn't even come with 'real' dos. its more of a virtual
environment. why not just dual-boot with win 98se, which comes with
'real' dos?...

I wknow it's just a emulated console, but it should emulate anything...
well, I don't have much time to prepare a dual boot... I should repartition
my disk, and is just for playing a pair of oldies... If I had enough time,
I'd already do it with WinXP/Linux

that's what both you and *i think, but apparently m$ didn't agree. i'm
sure they could have included full-dos, even though NT doesn't "ride"
on it like the 9x'es did...

i have a vast collection of older, dos-based games. i have been able
to play only a few of them since going XP, and i miss alot of them so
much i am thinking about going with a 98se/xp dual. it seems to be the
only option... i've tried everything to get these to work in xp, but
no go as of yet and i've been trying for over two years now. :/~

and i've tried a xp/linux dual before, but linux is just useless.
