Hi Friends,

I am using Win XP Home Ed. and have installed/activated "MS Defender".

In the past I have used Lavasoft's "Ad-Aware".

Do I need this too? Or is it redundant?

I do not have unlimited resources on this computer, as it is an older model.

Thanks for any help!

You should not rely on a single malaware app.
AdAware does not run in the background, so uses no resources untill you run
it.
It is free as is SpyBot, which also only runs when you start it.

What AV app do you run, if you run either Norton or McAfee they are both
resource hogs, there are better free ones avilable

No, it's not redundant. I would use both. Adding another ant-spyware product
or two wouldn't hurt either. I use both of those and also Spyware Blaster
and Spybot Search and Destroy. Eric Howes, who has done extensive testing
on Anti-Spyware products, states:

"No single anti-spyware scanner removes everything. Even the best-performing
anti-spyware scanner in these tests missed fully one quarter of the
"critical" files and Registry entries" See

both and spybot too. you can schedule spybot to update and auto scan/clean.
look under advanced settings.

PC Mag gives it a rating of "FAIR" ...

I had it installed and un installed it as I found it intrusive ... but what
else can you exspect from Microsoft :) Adaware is still probably your best
bet.
