Hi folks. I recently added MS Antispyware Beta 1 (updated as of 12/5/05) in
an attempt to stop some nasty adware. I already use Ad-Aware and Spybot.
Even after several scans by MS and the others, I continue to get the popups.
Even though they are always different, there seems to be a common thread in
the address they go to. Many times he address ends with .yyy65.html. And
then I get another popup to purchase a free product Registry Cleaner.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Whoops--and before you clean it up, please submit, if possible, a Tools,
suspected spyware report from within Microsoft Antispyware. That'll raise
this one higher on the screens.

Thanks for the information Bill. I tried to submit an error report and
received the following message:
Error occured submitting the scan results. Please check your Internet Proxy
setting and try again.
Any thoughts?

Steven, you might also try downloading the free version of Ewido. I will
probably clean up your problem. At the present time I think that Ewido is
the most powerful spyware detection and removal tool .

None that I can print in a family-oriented forum!

This is a bug. Don't go digging into proxy settings, unless something else
isn't working right. They've reproduced it in-house, and it won't be there
in beta2. I've got machines in offices some of which have this issue and
others do not, and I've never figured out how to get around it.

Thanks for all your help Bill. Since I can't report the problem to them,
hopefully they will read this thread. Anyway, I'm more concerned about
getting rid of the spyware then reporting it to MS.

Let us know how the cleaning goes--that'll help others spot the solution if
they run into the same problem. The reporting stuff is nice when it is
automated and works smoothly--otherwise it is too much trouble. Spynet--the
mechanism that receives thos reports--is a real strength for this
product--I'm sure it'll work better in beta2.

Its the look2me infection so as Bill advises use SpySweeper. CWShredder
would also help remove the files but SpySweeper is the recommended method of
dealing with this.

download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE

http://www.webroot.com/downloads/

(It's a 2 week trial):
Click the Free Trial link on the right - next to "SpySweeper for Home
Computers" to download the program.

Install it.
Once the program is installed, it will open.

It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.

Once the definitions are installed, close SpySweeper for now.

Reboot to safe mode.

1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the
Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Open SpySweeper again, click Sweep Now on the left side.
Click the Start button.
When it's done scanning, click the Next button.

Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button
again to remove the infection. You may get a prompt to reboot to finish
cleanup, if you do follow that and then the infection should be removed.

Good Luck

Andy
