Hi Garrett
it may be that you don't actually have the worm or virus yet!!
You may have some malware/spyware, sometimes known as "crapware" (for
obvious reasons) and this may be opening a "gateway" to your computer that is
trying to let in all sorts of nasty programmes.
What I recommend doing is going to the web site below and downloading
ad-aware, which once installed, will root out all of the crapware on your
computer and quarantine it. Caution - Don't delete anything just yet!! As
soon as you've installed it, make sure you get the latest updates to it
before running it on your system.
Be prepared for some results that make you look unfit to own a computer!!
)
It tends to throw up cookies and tracking stuff as "potentials" but the
critical objects and others it warns you about are the ones needing attention.
Re-boot your system and run the scan again just to make sure you have
nothing in the registry re-installing after manual deletion.
I would then go to one of the big Firewall/AV sites like Symantec to do a
security check on your system and this will tell you about any vulnerable
ports etc. on your system and allow you to do something about it.
Lastly but not least, I recommend a very, very good firewall. I use Zone
Alarm firewall and Nortons anti virus but there are a number of other like
Macafee, Panda AVG etc. that will provide excellent protection. Always make
sure you are up to date. I don't know much about Windows Defender but that
is a sign that I have probably seen it and discounted it in the past -
download the free Zone Alarm firewall and use that, it's ten times better
than Windows own firewall and many others and its FREE!
