Unable to set schedule for AutoUpdate or for unsupervised scan. Using XP with
several users but even the Administrative account can't schedule. The options
appear and the program says it saved the changes but the next time the
program starts, it opens with the new user screen and the option settings
have not not changed.

Hello Spook0,
Make certain that you are using the administrator account that installed the
ªpp.

You can repair Windows Defender using Add or Remove Programs in Control
Panel. Click WD and click Change. Click Next, and then click Updªte.

Let us know how it works ºut.

The repair install Engel mentions may fix this one. As I recall, there's a
particular .gcd file which you can delete "userdata"?? that will also fix
this one.

I'm rapidly shedding my Microsoft Antispyware troubleshooting skills. May I
recommend that you update to Windows Defender--the new name for beta2 of
Microsoft Antispyware (which is called Windows Antispyware in at least some
KB articles?)

Hi Bill, I'm a newbie to this forum and I have a problem with Windows Defender that is driving me nuts.

I have the problems that have been reported here before, but I have been able to download the 'definition' updates from the MS Update site. My problem is. Windows Defender tells me that my 'definitions' are 48 days (and counting) out of date. This is despite the updates saying that they installed ok.

I have tried the MS solution of Run, Msiexec /x a5CC2A09-ES9D3-49EC-923D-037874BD4C2C. I get told that this program (I think it's Windows Installer) doesn't exist.

Can you help please.
Regards
Colin

I would encourage you to migrate to Windows Defender beta 2 if you are
having any issues with Windows AntiSpyware beta 1.
