MS Antispyware Not So Good!

I've been running MS Antispyware for several weeks now,
and can't seem to find that it's doing anything. I scan
my computer with AdAware and Spybot S&D periodically, and
find things each time. (mostly tracking cookies) Yet,
Microsoft's version doesn't seem to find any of them.
Then there is the issue of the little pop up windows that
appear down by the clock which are supposed to advise me
of a problem. Well, I found the problem. The stupid
notifications don't stay up long enough to read! I can't
find where they are stored, or IF they are stored, so I
can't go back to see what it was.
So far, I can't see where this program does anything but
update itself and run every night. I couldn't even send
in a report. That part didn't work.
I appreciate their attempt, but so far it needs some more
work.
1. For one thing, I'd like an interactive report to view
and select what I want to delete.
2. I want to be able to get more info on each item
3. There should be a log of every notification that it
has given me.
4. I want to be able to tweak it a little more than I
can now. There should be a place for adding "ignore"
items, for example. Other things to tweak should be
adjustable detail of report, critical vs. non-critical
item identification, mru list identification and removal
option.
5. Microsoft should maintain a database of spyware
removal instructions that are easy to access and obtain.
It should have removal tools for those items that this
program can't handle. Either they are going to get into
this side of it, or they aren't. They should not do it
halfway, especially if the rumors are true that they are
going to charge for it eventually.
 
I think with time that Microsoft will do good with this
program. They will charge us $99.00 for the software that
they do will everything else. I also have been running the
program for two weeks and agree that it does not find many
of the problems. I still use Ad-aware and Spybot. I also
think that it is wrong not to have a version for Windows
98Se or Windows ME. There are lots of people using these
version. Not everyone can buy a new computer with WinXP on
it or afford to update their present computer so it will
take WinXP. Microsoft needs to be told to support any
software that they develop and sells. Specially since
update versions cost about $99.00 when other companies
only charge $29.00-49.00 for their upgrades. Keep working
on the Spyware program, one day after many updates it
might be good. Make the spyware program for people still
using older version of Windows.
 
Microsoft has stated that the capabilities we are testing in this beta will
be available at no additional cost to licensed Windows users.
 
The current build is not intended to detect cookies.
If that is all that is missed, nothing is really missed.
Current tools within Windows control cookies very well.
Start with : Tools/Internet Options/Privacy

No business supports everything forever.
Windows 98 is more than 7 years old, quite old for computer technology.
 
I have been using it for several months. Some things it
does well, some things really blow. Your gripe about the
quickly disappearing messages is well founded. It is as
if some programmer at GIANT played a parting trick on MS
and said "How can I most frustrate users while appearing
to actually help them". The worst part is when the
software finds something and still can't get rid of it.
Another thing they should change is the software should
allow you to interrupt the scan (right now you can only
ABORT) once you interrupt it it should allow you to get
rid of any threats found right up until the point it was
interrupted. Alos it should allow you to do other things
in the program while the scan continues to run.

Hey Microsoft, you should have bought Spybot S&D from
Patrick Kolla instead of this piece of Junk from Giant.
The biggest software company in the world and some German
guy working out of an apartment in Dublin singlehandedly
writes a better program than you because he wants to
impress some girl.

98Se and Windows ME are going to retire very soon.

Speaking strictly as an end user, it is time to catch up with new demands of the
markets. You want MS to support Win98Se and Windows ME? Might as well tell MS,
"Hey I want DOS and Win95 as well !!!!" MS thinks, "OK, you want this, pay the
current prices for the current OS. Meanwhile the CFO thinks "That's a bloody
good idea !!!" Board meeting minutes. Keep DOS and Win95 including Win98,
Win98SE and Win Me and charge them Longhorn prices.

(A little of politics here, sorry, normally I don't discuss politics)

average income is US$500.

how much for the OS without the hardware?
oooooops, maybe I will get a computer next year or I will stop paying my rental
and fast for 3 months so that I can afford it in another 3 months.
