I've been unable to get an up-date to work whether it be
auto or manual. I use Syagate Firewall and disabled it
thinking that was stopping it.
I tried the LSP fix and I tried the winsock2.exe fix,
when I tried backing up the registry before using
winsock, everything failed, so I didn't take a chance on
doing it. Any ideas on how to get my up-date to work?
Thanks

Ensure that either Outlook Express or Internet Explorer is not working off
line before attempting obtain updates in Microsoft AntiSpyware. Click "File"

Hi Andre, thanks for the quick replies. I'm not too sure
of which files you are talking about, I went to that
page. Can you please help me out on that?
thanks

By Plun:
- Right click om MSAS icon in systray and choose shutdown
- Open Windows Explorer and go to Program files / MSAS
- Rename gcThreatAuditScanData.gcd to gcThreatAuditScanData.old
- Rename gcThreatAuditThreatData.gcd to gcThreatAuditThreatData.old
- Start MSAS and try menu file- check for updates.

Also it is not necessary to "Check for updates", MSAS checks this during
restart.
Verified and working.

Hi,
I did as requested, when I renamed those files and went
to up-date, I think it up-dated as my PC was loading the
MS program. Spyware Definition Version: 5705 (4/11/2005
1:33:38 AM.... Then I tried another on-line up-date, just
to see if it worked, it again said cannot connect. Does
this mean I have to rename that file everytime there is
an up-date?
Thanks

First of all, Microsoft AntiSpyware cannot work in limited accounts, are all
the accounts on the machines that Microsoft AntiSpyware is installed have
Administrative priviledges?

Peter

Start Internet Explorer and connect Online before selecting File Update
in Microsoft Anti-Spyware.

Hope this helps.

Hi Peter

Try this to make your challenge clearer.

- Download TCPview from Sysinternals

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/tcpview.shtml

- Close IE, Outlook etc to minimize running programs.

- Run TCPview and compare it with mine. ( click on picture
for better image)

http://hem.bredband.net/b288305/msasdefupdate.jpg

As you can see I have 3 connetions open when I click on
"Check for updates".

GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe:2888 TCP
dunderii.bredbandsbolaget.se:4647 www.spynet.com:80
ESTABLISHED
GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe:2888 TCP
dunderii.bredbandsbolaget.se:4649 207.46.230.48:80
ESTABLISHED
GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe:2888 UDP DunderII:4648 *:*

When I rename my def files to "old" and update I also get this:

GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe:3152 TCP
dunderii.bredbandsbolaget.se:2603 crl.microsoft.com:80
ESTABLISHED

Hi,

I think that Sygate must have a log file. Had you tried to have a look at it
and search for entries "Giantantispy" and "GCASSWUPDATE"?
