It stopped for some unkown reason. I put a shortcut in Startup. Now that a
new version has been installed since a few days, if I remove the shortcut in
startup that I put in manually, will it open up automatically and settle on
the taskbar as it did originaly? The shortcut in the startup causes it to
remain on the srceen upon opening the computer untill I close it.

Try it and see what happens.

The failure of the icon to appear can be caused by several bugs, one of
which is in XP, rather than Microsoft Antispyware.

If the Icon fails to appear after removing your shortcut, try doing this:

start, control panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft antispyware, change,
update.

to see if that changes things.

Since corrected. I have since removed the shortcut in startup and it does
indeed open when opening the computer and settles on the taskbar near the
clock.
