Damn. I hate it when I do that :-)
Here's the link:

The link given above actually has a VBScript that will remove Windows
Messenger (MSN Messenger is not installed by default and easily removed)
automatically without making OE break if they have the contacts pane
enabled.

Help me out.

Looks like I'm confused on the terminology here. When I saw
Windows Messenger I thought your link was referring to the
messenger service, not the instant messenger program. I see
now that they now call the IM program Windows Messenger.
Now is that differnt than MSN messenger? Or is it just a branded
version of the same thing. Since I don't use IM I removed the
program a long time ago, whatever it's name is. At that time
I had to edit the sysoc.inf file to get it to show in the
Add/Remove window.

Messenger Service, Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are three different
things. Windows Messenger comes with WinXP and looks a lot like MSN
Messenger, but MSN Messenger has to be downloaded and I'm told it has more
capabilities. I don't have MSN Messenger.

On a stand alone computer activating the Windows firewall on SP1 or 2 will
stop external Messenger Service indows.

<g> When you open Outlook Express there's a contacts pane there in the lower
left by default. This ties into Messenger. Removing messenger may make OE
slow to open. Using the script at Doug's site I'm pretty sure prevents that
though. He's good like that.
