ms anti-spy beta 1

I tried running the microsoft anti-spy beta 1 program and
it seems to hang every time at the same spot -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Unins
tall\TTOOL_UNINSTALL

I also get a message that I am running low on virtual
memory at that time. I have tried increasing the virtual
memory (I am not sure that I did it correctly) as well as
reset the virtual memory to be determined by the system -
neither worked.

I have also run spybot, ad-aware and the yahoo anti spy
program prior to running this. All found different
things. The MS program (which was the last to be run)
also found quite a few things but I wasn't able to delete
them due to the fact that the program hung every time.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You may want to try scanning in safemode or let the scan run overnight.

I did try running it in safe mode. It didn't help.
Running overnight is not the issue...the software
essentially hangs at that point in the program...the
window becomes non-responsive.
Any additional help would be appreciated.

How comfortable are you with looking into permissions in the registry?

It'd be interesting to know what the permissions are on that key.

One possibility for what is happening here is that a virus/trojan/spyware
has set permissions on that key such that even an administrator can't work
with it.

You can fix this by taking ownership of the key and changing the
permissions.

This is not simple stuff, however--and if in doubt, the basic answer I'd be
inclined to give is to find another commercial product which can clean this
particular issue.
