I have a networked environment which is and
educational instituition that is running several
different
plat forms of machinery. These machine types are PII,
PIII
Dells and PII Compaqs.
It is a server based environment running W2k Advanced
Server in all locations. We keep the students excersize
files stored on a read only share on the servers. The
students are mapped to such share.
They are instructed to copy the Access files from the
network share and place it unto the local machine they
are
using. Now by default the permissions should
automatically
change from read only too normal. This is the standard
way
NTFS works and it is so the case on the PIII Dells but
not
the case on the PIIs.
The Group Policies in this domain are the same for
all
machines involved so that is not an issue at this point.
Althought it may be a policy that is effecting those type
of machines.
Not only are the file permissions not being changed
to
normal like they are supposed to the Access File opens up
and asks for a login and pw on those machines.
This only happens with this group of users. It does
not happen with admin accounts or accounts not affected
by
this policy.
I believe that it may very well be a combination of
the machine type combined with NTFS and Group Policies
that is causing this situation. The problem is I do not
know how to solve the problem, and I have tried some of
the basics and nothing seems to work!!!
Any help or thoughts on this situation would be
greatly appreciated.
