"The scan destination file or drive does not exist." per KB891717 for
which there is some guided help.

The phantom 'error' refers to a missing sysclean.com, a malware cleanup
tool from Trend Micro included with the ' Sysclean Package '
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

You did run Sysclean, correct ? If so, it's nothing to be concerned
about if you deleted it after it was run.

I did not run sysclean. I will take care of that. Thank you for the link.

Pete, I did find KB891717 but that left me guessing. I must have put to much
in the search with Google and limited my results.

Can I trust the results as far as 0 found is concerned or did it stop the
full scan due to the error message? KM890830 and KB891717 is not clear on
that matter.

Thanks,

Guy

Hello Guy:

0x80508019:

I wonder if the possibility exists that at one time you had another hard
disk drive or partition mounted that you scanned? e.g. USB thumb drive
or eternal USB hard disk drive, internal drive (now non-existent).

I don't read anything that should give you much more than little concern.

I you have other excellent antimalware protection, that you keep up to
date and run regularly, then MRT/MSRT is redundancy.

SysClean:

My meager research failed to find the direct connection between the
Trend Micro SysClean scanner/file and the 0x80508019 error in MRT.
Hopefully MowGreen will be able to help me find my lost marbles. :-)

Do downloaded and put sysclean in the system32 directory but that did not fix
my problem. I did get the updated defs and run it while I was at it and the
system now shows to be clean. A full scan in attended mode did not generate
the error but my goal is to full scan in the background.

You question about a removed external drive is a good question. The user
that use to have the system I am testing on is not with us anymore so I can
only speculate that a USB drive may have been used in the past. Rebooting
did not cure this problem either.

It seems like a full scan in unattended mode completes in minutes. When I
do a full scan attended it takes 2 hrs (I have no problem with that). This
system did pass a quick scan where a full attended scan found evilness in a
users temp directory and the restore points. I have dealt with that. Not
letting people have admin rights is such a life saver.

I am left with the impression that a full unattended scan is not completing
due to the error. I base that in the small amount of time it is taking, say
5 minutes.

Hello Guy:

Perhaps you can check MRT/MSRT's "Custom scan" for drives or folders
that don't presently exist.

I believe this might be a good opportunity to run more/overlapping
antimalware scans. Please consider the freeware versions of:

MBAM: <http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php>

SAS: <http://www.superantispyware.com/>

Both have fine reputations in the antimalware newsgroups.
