I'm using Outlook 2000 and have lost the ability to send and receive email.
Any message that I try to send out generates the error message for no
transport provider.

I have dumped and recreated my pst files and have even created a new profile
with new locations for the pst. I still get the same error message.

Any thoughts or comments about where to poke next would be much appreciated.

Are you properly authenticating to your ISP's outgoing server?

I believe that I am, I can setup other machines to access my email account
without difficulty and comparing the settings side by side, everything
appears to have identical settings. It's just the original machine will not,
cannot send or receive email. This is also an older installation, that has
worked fine. It was just over a weekend when the machine was unattended that
the problem was noticed when I opened Outlook and received no mail of any
kind. At the moment, no mail enters and an outgoing message to a working
address sits idle for a long time then eventually an System Administrator
error message appears indicating that no transport provider could be located.

Based on previous experiences, I did wipe out the email accounts and the pst
files to return the pst to a minimal file size.

I have also confirmed the Norton Internet Security settings on both machines
share the same settings.

Are you also using Microsoft Exchange with Outlook? Are you entering the
e-mail addresses manually into the To box or are you pulling them from
contacts?

I am using an internet mail account and have been manually entering the email
addresses having deleted my .pst files (after backup, etc...). After further
work it appears now that the fault may lie outside of Outlook and be with
Norton Internet Security. When it is disengaged, email will slowly exit the
machine and some will come in. When it is enabled, no email will work at all.
With support greatly lacking from Symantec, I will poke at it but hold out
little hope of resolving the problem short of erasing the machine and
starting over to get back to a point where I have both email access and virus
protection.

Let me know how your investigation goes and if you come to a resolution.
