I converted a DVD to MPEG1 using DVD-Ripper. The Quality
was terrible. I then ripped in MPEG2. When I open it
using Windows Media Player it runs and the quality is
just what I need, however when I insert it as a movie
file in powerpoint, it won't run.

Can you view the mpeg via media player? I just tried to do one and it
worked fine (but it was a small clip).

Are you trying to do the whole film or just a clip, if you are trying the
whole film it may be a memory / resources issue?

Hi Chris,

Just curious, what happens if you insert it as an object?
Click on Insert, Object, Create from file, select your
MPEG2 file. You may need to use action settings or custom
animation to Activate Contents for it to play.

Which version of PowerPoint? - I found later versions XP & 2003 handle
MPEG-2. Others did not for me. Regards JohnI

I have tried several things and now here is what I get.
First I'm running Windows XP Pro, and Powerpoint 2002.
Using the Insert Movie from File, I can insert the movie.
It appears on the slide as a black square. In the preview
screen, when I click Play, it shows that it is running,
but nothing appears, no sound and the black square
remains on the screen. When I view the Slide Show, the
black square remains on the screen, no sound, no video.
I've tried hyperlinking to the file and when you click on
the link, it activates Windows Media Player and the clip
runs, which would be ok, but it is not seemless. You have
to close the player to return to the Presentation. Others
who run the presentation need to have it 'simple'. Ideas?
