Before today, I had NO problem with capturing SVHS tapes via Gigapocket into
mpg format and importing them into movie maker

something has changed on BOTH my computers that does not allow mpg files to
be imported and viewed any more
I can see the MPG file just fine with media player but movie maker 2.x
cannot paly them - auido does get imported just fine though

RE: Have you removed the dvd playing codec?

Why would that be a problem - these are mpg files
and the windows player - plays them justfine. The movie maker imports them
but when you add them to the timeline there is only audio being heard - and
this happened on two separate computers. It seems realted to XP SP2 or one
of the components.

Sorry as you say you can see them in wmp you must still have the codec. WMM
uses the codec that wmp uses to be able to use the mpeg info on the
timeline. I should have said the mpeg codec, but as mostly it's dvd mpegs
asked about it came out as dvd codec.
So, exactly what sort of mpeg is it?

what kind of mpeg is it???

I'm not sure - it was captured with GigaPocket - but the point is that all
this worked on both machines
i.e., I could import ANY of these mpg files into WMM, and drop it onto the
timeline as audio and video.
Now it only drops audio on the timeline. There is no video showing.

This all worked before the SP2 and wmm upgrade.

See the new codec issue post a few before this one and perhpas contact
Kirsten as well with a sample of the file.
