Hello All (and Sonia in particular)

;-)

I have 3 computers running WinXP with several PowerPoint versions. None of
the machines plays any mpeg2 in 'mplay32.exe'

I have read a lot of stories about solving mpeg2 problems in any PowerPoint
under WinXP. On none of the machines it works (different codecs, different
dvd software etc.)

On an old Win98 machine it works perfectly in any PowerPoint version (so the
mpeg2 is o.k. I assume...)

Did anyone ever really solve the mpeg2-WinXP problem?? And what did the
trick?? Please tell me because all tutorials and codecs installation and
registry checks did not work for me yet....

Thanx

Guurt,

I've yet to see anyone post here to say that MPEG2 works in powerpoint

MPEG1 and MPEG4, but not mpeg2

Dear TAJ Simmons,

Correct me if I am wrong but a movie set as DVD quality (720 x 576, 6000
kbit/s) recorded in Pinnacle Studio 8 (or Nero Vison express or NEOdvd) is
not a mpeg2 movie???

(or have a look at Sonia Coleman's very extended Tutorial on the mpeg2 in
PowerPoint matter?)

It does play in PowerPoint (2000 and higher) on a compu with Win98 and dvd
software installed. But it does not play on the same computer (and others)
with WinXP...

I don't know about mpeg4.

Thanx,
Guurt

That tutorial is about how PowerPoint handles multimedia and the role that
MCI plays and that codecs play in the puzzle. It is not specifically about
mpeg2 files or even about video files. If you have verified that your MCI
settings match those listed in the tutorial, then I would suspect that the
video you have requires a codec that isn't installed on your Win XP system.

Thanks Sonia and TAJ, and to be honest I do not know too much about mpeg2,
but what if the mpeg2 is renderred on the very same computer? Or even in
different software. For example Nero6, DVDplus or Studio8 all render mpeg2
movies and all do not play in mplay32.exe but when started under Win98
(duo-bootable) the mplayer.exe plays them fine!?

Anyway...I followed another excellent tip of yours (same tutorial) about
importing Windows Media Player 9 objects into PowerPoint 2003 and it
certainly gives satisfying results!
The only thing I am looking for now is how to keep the Full Screen Mode in
it's properties set on 'True'? Now I save it in 'True' but have to close and
open the presentation to get the initial set on Full Screen?

Getting close, I guess...

Thanx again!
