Search mpeg2 version of Virtual dub

Correct me if I'm wrong but Virtual Dub is for AVI's. Yes you can load
MPG's but you can't save them in that format. And yes you can convert
back to MPG using TMPGEnc but the resulting file will be too derogated to
be usefull.

To anybody reading this subject field hoping that this could be 'the'
post, directing them to a freeware MPG editor, I can categorically say
that there IS no freeware MPG editor available anywhere. If I am wrong in
this please post the URL because I've been looking for one for over two
years.

Not necessariily so, if you use the same or higher bitrate, PROVIDED
the frame size of the original is no larger than the default frame
size of TMPGEnc. If the original frame size is larger than 352 x 240
then you MAY have a problem with compression loss & degradation.

Edit with virtual dub using the same frame size and bitrate as the
original.

File/Open/Filename
File/File Info - Note the Data Rate and Frame Size

Use your ->Key to advance to the desired frame
Edit/Select selection start
Use your ->Key to advance to the next desired frame
Edit/Select selection end
Delete section

Repeat the sequence until you have removed the offending parts.

Video/Divx5.1/Configure/Enter the data rate as noted above
Video/Filters/Resize ONLY IF IT IS SMALLER THAN THE TMPG DEFAULT.
File/save Newfilename.avi

Re-Encode with TMPGEnc.

Otherwise buy a license for TMPGEnc and you can have most larger frame
sizes. Bet it cost you more in time and opportunities lost over the
last 2 years than a license fee. Let's stay realistic about these
things.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Coincidently, I just downloaded an MPG clip which had too much yellow
in it.

Loaded it into virtual dub with the same bitrate & frame size,
lightened the image by 10% and decreased the Hue by 30% to give me a
more natural skin tone, then saved it in Divx 5.1

Converted back to mpg. The files size has gone from 42,689kb to
42,709kb and bitrate dropped from 1150kbps to 1149kbps.

I now have a clip which is cleaner and the subjects have more natural
colours.
