Hi

I try to insert a mpeg2 media clip into my PPT2000 presentation.
Unfortunately is is not displayed correctly but only a black rectangle
instead of the clip.
The codec is installed, clips are displayed in all Wiindows Media
Players (mplayer2 and wmplayer v9).

What´s wrong?

Thanks,
Hanno

Does it play in slide show view? Generally, when you're in normal "edit"
view, you'll only see a black square -- if that's what's on the first
frame of your MPEG.

Hi Hanno

Try this knowledgebase solution:

Let me answer both tips in one posting:

The black square is displayed in slide show also. And even if the first
frame doesn´t contain a balck background so that you can see some image
in edit mode, the clip is not displayed in the slide show.

I already checked the tips mentioned in the knowledge base solution (BTW
non of these messages was displayed, I just don´t see any content of my
clips...):
In my case (WinXP) I also found that it doesn´t matter what´s in the
win.ini and system.ini but you should find these entries in the
registration data.

Some guy told me that the problem may be based on which player PPT uses
for displaying the clips and that the default/internal player is not
able to display MPEG2 clips...
Any comments about that?

Hanno

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

Yes, for WinXP, Win2000 and WinNT, you'll find those settings in the
registry.

PPT uses the MCI Media Player to play multimedia, not the Windows Media
Player you'd expect it to use. The test is to play your video by going
to Start/Run and typing in mplay32.exe If the video plays there, it
*should* play in PPT. I think you mentioned in your first post (?) that
the video does play there. So I didn't think it was an issue with your
MCI settings (which are those found in the registry as you mentioned
above).

You might check
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm -- it
may give you some ideas. I'm wondering if you convert your MPEG2 to
MPEG-1 if you'll have better results.

OK this might have been one reason for my problem

When starting mplay32 as mentioned above a message window pops up
telling me that some other program changed the settings and asks to
solve this.

I don´t know what is done then by the player, the OS or whoever.
However, it doesn´t matter if I click on the "yes" or "no" button, the
MPEG2 clip is displayed properly in both cases, but is still not
displayed in PPT :(

BTW: In the meantime I found out that the default application for
displaying clips was changed by the winamp agent. This seems to be the
reason for the mesage window mentioned above. I turned it off and
mplay32.exe strats without such a message now (but still the clips are
not displayed in PPT).

Maybe I´ll ty that too. The advantage of MPEG2 is the better resolution
of the MPEG2 clips.
I think I´ll try to insert the clips as objects too.

Thanks a lot ;^)
