DO I need special software to convert a mpeg file to avi?
========================
If Movie Maker will open the file,
use the following instructions to
save as .avi.

To save as an .avi movie file...
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

If Movie Maker will not open the
MPEG file...read the following
article for alternatives.

MM2 opens 1 in the collection box, but Ctrl-P is greyed out. I'm
confused with Mpeg 1,2,3,4 I think I know that 4 is for video and one
of the others is for audio. But my files just say MPG...not even Mpeg.
When I right click that 1 file, a menu appears and has "create Clips". I
choose it, but nothing appears.

Ctrl+P will be grayed out unless
you drag at least file to the timeline.

BTW...all .mpg / .mpeg files are
video. You may be thinking about
..mp3.

Have a look at the following article:
