I am trying to insert a video file into a presentation. I can insert a .avi
file but when I try to insert a .mpg file I get the following error.
Powerpoint couldn't insert a movie from the selected file. Either the file
is non-standard or Quicktime is not installed properly. I have re-installed
the latest Quicktime and have run a "repair" on my Office XP and still get
the same error.

I thought I had exactly the same setup on my Laptop but can insert the file
there without any problem.

I don't want to insert the file as an object, since I don't have the same
control that way. Obviously I have a problem with my settings, can someone
shed any light.

Sonia,
Gone through the tutorial and compared everything with my laptop. Although
Windows XP is slightly different from your tutorial, I think I have managed
to compare everything.
The only difference I can see is that there is a codec nuvision.ax on my
laptop which I don't have on my workstation.

( please see my other mail sent to yourself regarding PowerPlus)

What is the source of the video? If you created it with special software
and/or hardware, there is a possibility that a proprietary codec was used.
For example, I see a web page that indicates that nuvision.ax is part of a
driver for a USBTV 400 device from Nogatech. Do you have such a device?

I have a Hauppage winTV device on both computers (USB on the Laptop and PCI
on the workstation) but the video was created with Roxio Videowave. I can
play the video file but it opens Media Player to do it.

Try going to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe to open the player that
PowerPoint uses. Then go to File > Open to open your video. Does it play?

What codec did you use in Roxio Videowave and on which system did you create
the video? That codec must be installed in Windows on the system you're
running PowerPoint on.

In your previous note you said, "Although Windows XP is slightly different
from your tutorial, I think I have managed to compare everything." There
are two screenshots of what you should compare to your own Registry. The
Data values for each "Name" should match exactly.

When I try to run mpg files using mplay32.exe I get an error message
telling me that MediaPlayer has encountered an error and needs to close.
Obviously I have some error.
I have just created another mpg file using Ulead VideoStudio and it ran in
MediaPlayer so I will try to find the settings in Videowave. The problem is
that it uses wizards and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get into
the settings. Thank you for your help.
