Can anyone help? All of a sudden, MPEG's have started
playing in my browser (IE6.0) rather than in Windows Media
Player. Most other video file types are playing correctly.

How do you stop the browser from playing the movie in it
and get back to using Windows Media Player again?

Bob,
You need to change the file association back to Windows Media
Player and here is the way:
Open your Windows Media Player and click TOOLS/OPTIONS and
depending on what version you are running you will see either File Types
or FORMAT tab at the top... Click the one you see and in the window,
make sure that mpeg is checked and hit APPLY and OK.
Then LEFT click the mpeg in question ONCE to highlight and then
hold down your SHIFT key and RIGHT click the highlighted icon
and then select OPEN WITH from the menu... On the new window
that appears, scroll down to Windows Media Player and LEFT click
to highlight it and then make sure there is a check in the little box
in the lower left corner that says to "Always open with this program"
and then click OK. You have now changed the file association back to
WMP..

I did what you said but still not having any luck. I can
download the video file (any MPEG)onto the desktop and
then double clicking the icon will perform the proper
task, ie. open the video with the WMP. The problem is
that if I just open the video (single left click on the
link) with my browser, the video just plays in the
browser. It's almost like I got some plug-in or something
that allows WMP to play in the browser. For all other
video types, when single left click on the link, the WMP
just starts up and plays it perfectly. It used to work
that way with MPEG's too but for some reason just stopped
today. Don't know what the heck I did. Help!?

Bob,
I am not sure either. Mine also opens them in the browser if
I click a LINK to them... Anything saved on local machine opens
in WMP with no prob.
Did you by chance recently download and install Quick Time Player?

Maybe somebody else will chime in here with more input.
