Hi!

When I try to insert a MPEG1 video into PowerPoint
(I use Office XP) I get the following error code:

"PowerPoint couldn't insert movie from the selected file.
Either the file is non-standard, or QuickTime is not
installed properly."

I can play the MPG file outside PPT using Windows Media
Player 9 Series. I have also QuckTime installed and the
Nimo codecs. WMV files can be inserted into PPT though
without any problem. But MPEG1 files just wont work.
I can´t even run earlier PPT slideshows that contains
MPEG1 files.

Please I need some help.

Best regards

Also had this problem

Ran the mpeg1 file through moviemaker - imported and
created movie without alterations. It then worked fine.
Moviemaker also offers the choice of different file
formats just in case.

Same problem now happens in Excel, it runs .avi files OK
but .mpegs now load up in separate windows - can't win
all of the time!

Hope this helps

Mike's suggestion to run the file through Movie Maker (free Windows XP
download available on microsoft.com) is a good one.

What seems to be happening is that your MPEG really is using a nonstandard
or proprietary codec. (As far as QuickTime MOV files, only versions 1, 2,
and 2.5 will run in PPT. Later versions won't. Use QuickTime Pro to save to
a different version if that's the problem.)

The ability to play the file in Windows Media Player doesn't mean anything
in PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP), as it uses the MCI Media Player to play files.

What I suggest is that you carefully read
http://www.soniacoleman.com/Tutorials/PowerPoint/multimedia.htm

First test your file in the MCI Media Player as described in the tutorial.
If your file doesn't play there, make sure your registry settings match
those described in the tutorial (in the screenshots). (*note that if you use
Win 2000/WinXP/WinNT, you need to edit your registry for these settings. If
you're using Win 98/95, the MCI settings live in the INI files, not in the
registry. So read that part very carefully.)

If your registry/INI settings match, but the file still doesn't play in MCI
Media Player, then check into your codec. There's a list of common codecs in
the tutorial. Make sure your video file uses one of those. GSpot will help
you determine what codecs were used in your file.
