Mpeg files

Moviemaker 2 stops responding while trying to edit mpeg files, does anyone know what might be causing this! I have no problem capturing or importing, but when I start to edit it will work sort of for a little while then lock up. Please help!
 
Playback/importing of MPEG2 content is completely dependent on the third
party MPEG2 decoder installed on your computer. Most do not work well. See
the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG2 page of www.papajohn.org

know what might be causing this! I have no problem capturing or importing,
