When I drag MPEG files created on my Panasonic DVD camcorder, Windows Movie
Maker always puts it on the audio timeline. How do I get Windows Movie Maker
to split the file between the audio and video time lines?

Paul

I don't think that's it. When I load other MPEG files into MM it works fine.
I have a trial version of Adobe Premiere, and the same thing happens.

My camcorder came with software that allows me to burn DVDs and play them on
my computer and DVD player, but I'm not able to edit these files. Could it
be I need to load a codec into my computer?

Paul

Odd that you can load other mpegs into a trial version of premeire as the
mpeg editor is an expensive paid for plug in.....
If the other mpegs wort fine then it is something with this particular mpeg,
so look back at how you recorded it/captured it and find out what you did
different with this one to the others and correct it.

My description of what's happening is true for all the files from this
camcorder. None of them are editable im MM or Premiere, but I can edit MPEG
files from sources in both those programs. Also, I can view these files in
Windows Media Player or burn them to disc, and view them on my TV.

Again, these editing programs see these files only as audio files. Why is
that?

Paul

Unfortunately playing mpegs in wmp is different to editing in MM. If non of
the mpeg files from the camcorder work and others do then it is the codec
that is used by the cams manufacturer to produce the mpeg that is missing
from the set-up or inaccessible to MM. Therefore, as I suggested previously
you will need to convert these files to avi.

I downloaded a program called Video Workshop, and it did the trick. Thank
you for your help.
