MP4 file format?

Hi,

Is there a way of importing mp4 files into movie maker? Mp4 is quite common
now so there must be a way to get round it. Maybe an update to down load or
something?

Windows Movie Maker is not compatible with
..mp4 video files. You'll have to convert the file
into a compatible format, .wmv or .avi for example.

A Google search for Convert MP4 should yield
some possible conversion software.

Thanks for your post. The mediaconvert website doesnt convert to a
compatabile format but I'll do a search on google.

Hi Stuart,

Yes, as John mentioned you'll want to convert the MP4 to either AVI or
WMV format and then import into Movie Maker. I actually did a screen
cast recently on how to incorporate an MP4 file (downloaded from
iTunes) into a PowerPoint presentation. PowerPoint can't handle MP4
files either, so I explain the process I used to convert it to WMV.

I actually used my own product to do the conversion in the
screencast. It's called Presio, which is a tool I recently released
for creating web presentations with audio/video and slides. It
captures (or imports) audio or video files as you speak to a set of
PowerPoint slides. The tool automatically synchronizes the slides
with the video and creates a professional looking webcast in either
Flash, Windows Media, Quicktime, or MP4 Video podcast formats.

It's a commercial product, but there's a free download version
available. The free version actually has decent video conversion
tools that are fully functionally. So, you convert an MP4 (or
virtually an media file type) to WMV using the free version. It's all
explained in the screen cast link above.

I checked your Presio application, and it looks interesting, but I could not
find a way to change the Import/conversion resolution/quality of .mp4
imported files.

I tried to edit the prx files in the profile folder, but they do not seem to
affect the import conversion quality (set at 320 x 240).
Is there a way to set the import/conversion quality for imported Video files
(like .mp4 files)

Hi Ducati,

I sent you a personal email through our support system answering your
questions, but I'll also post here in case others had a similar
question. See response below.

In the current release (1.2.35) you cannot control import quality nor
export quality. Both settings are internally set.

However, in our next release (due out early next week) you'll have the
ability to specify your export quality - you'll be able to choose from
3 presets (High, Medium, Low) or you can customize your exact export
quality by specifying a custom frame size, bitrate, and frame rate.

Also, in the new release import quality will automatically be
determined by the source file. So, for example, if you import a media
file that is encoded at 300kbs, at 15fps, and is 640x480 - Presio will
preserve those settings upon import.
