mp3's spontaniously become zero bytes size

I have a newer dell laptop with an 80 GB hard drive on which I had about 200
mp3's stored. Over a dozen of these mp3's have suddenly went from their
original file sizes to zero bytes file size. Some of them had been played
recently, others hadn't been played for quite some time. The disk is in
perfect shape according to spinrite and scandisk. I was wondering if anyone
else had noticed similar things happening on their systems? I should note
that the files were stored in the same folder, but the files that were
blanked out were spread throughout the folder, two of them (metallica songs)
were right next to each other. Thanks all!

Maybe DRM decided you didn't have the rights to them.

who is drm? these files have been on my drive over a year, and i have had no
problems....

Wasn't there a worm or trojan that deleted mp3 files? I seem to
remember one for these was going round some time back. Other
option: Metallica finally turned to Vodoo in order to keep
''their'' music out of ''their'' fans hands unless these fans
used the file-format Matallica wanst them ti use and pay for
it.

Better do a virus-scan on your disk.

Good advice. It sounds like DRM (digital rights management) spyware or
possibly a virus.

I thought of that, but i am using mcafee antivirus on this system, have been
since day 1; it is constantly autoupdated and it scans the disc for viruses
every other day, plus scans every incoming file in real time. also, it was
not all my mp3's which were affected, only about a dozen and a half or so.

Hmmm. Maybe a bug in the player? Sounds unlikely, but if it
opens the files for writing instead of reading, it would have
this effect....
