Either buy the special IPOD plugin for WMP (
www.wmplugins.com) or use
alternate iPod-accessible software like iTunes.
OK, it worked.
Using Napster (not important, but the source of the tunes I wanted)
I bought some tunes from Napster.
I burned them to a cd.
Using Media Player 10 (This is my software that can convert tunes to mp3
format; I'm guessing any software that converts to mp3 will work fine.)
I ripped the tunes from the cd to Windows Media Player 10 as mp3 files.
WMP10 showed that the tunes were unprotected (This is the key to succeeding;
only unprotected files can be added to the IPOD).
I made sure the mp3 files that I wanted on my IPOD were in a folder by
themselves in My Music.
Using ITunes 6
I added a folder (my mp3 tunes in My Music) via file:add folder ... to
ITunes.
I made a playlist so that I could arrange my mp3's in the order I wanted
them to play.
I connected my IPOD to my computer and the files were automatically loaded
onto my IPOD.
