MP3 sound file and wav files

I have Power Point 2007 from Microsost Office Pro.
I just discovered that Power Point only use wav file into the presentation.
Is that correct?
How can convert my mp3 file into wav files

PowerPoint doesn't only use wav files BUT only wav files can be embedded
(others are linked) and only wav files can be used as a transition sound.

There are several articles here which may help you including tricking PPT
into using and embedding mp3 files which are of course much smaller
