MP3 properties

This is going to sound really trivial, but if I right click on an MP3 in XP
home and choose Properties, Summary, Advanced, I can *usually* set the
artist name in the 'Music' section, amongst others.

But some MP3s only give 'track number' details so I can't set the artist
name. Pretty irritating since I like to sort my music by artist!

Anyone have a solution to this? Or is it like that & that's the way it is?

Might be a bit over the top for what I need but I'll look into it.
