In simple terms it is a device which has an amount of memory, 128-512Mb is
the typical range, which can be used to store MP3 audio files [usually by
connection to a computer] and then play back. They are very small items,
smaller ones can be about the size of a lady's lipstick, and one uses
personal headphones to listen to the music.

MPeg 1 Audio Layer 3 or more commonly, MP3 is an increasingly popular way to
store audio in electronic format.

The MP3 format compresses audio files in such a way that the file size is
relatively small, but the song sounds great: not as good as CD audio quality.
You can identify MP3 files because they end in the ".mp3" extension.
Typically 1 MB is equal to one minute of music or several minutes for spoken
word/audiobooks.

In very simple terms, you use it just like a CD player. MP3 players have all
the same buttons: fast forward, rewind, play, and pause.

With a CD player, you load your music into it by inserting a CD. With an MP3
player, you load your music by connecting it to your computer (there will be
a cable supplied with the MP3 player). Your computer will then copy songs
from CDs you own or music that you have bought on the Internet.
