Okay so when i open my Mp3 folder, explorer crashes.
Strange thing though : If i rename it to anything else, M3p, MP3s, hdhf,
whatever, i can open it straight away with no problems.
the only reason i dont just rename it is because my winamp playlist wont be
able to find any songs anymore haha.
But if i rename it and it works, some program must be browsing the MP3
folder, and screwing it up when i try to open it?

Perhaps windows media center? On my xbox i selected it as one of the folders
to browse in. I mean i have no idea, but the fact that i can rename it to
make it work..
any ideas anyone?

Thanks for your time.

Where is this MP3 folder located? Are there any error messages? You may be
running into some kind of virtualization problem.

it is located at c:\Mp3.
No error message at all, it just doesn't load the folder, tried leaving it
for hours but still the same, click on it and it asks to close it, wait for
it etc.

what is this "virtualisation"?

at the moment im just renaming it when i want to open it, and naming it back
to mp3 if i want to play my playlist haha.

Virtualization is used in Vista for compatibility with older programs that
are not Vista aware. This prevents older programs from writing to restricted
areas of the system and registry.

If this is a problem, in this case, open Windows Explorer and select that
folder, a new button should appear on the toolbar called "Compatibility
Files" click this button and a new window will open to
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Virtual Store folder. Look in all of the
folders and sub-folders there for a copy of that MP3 folder. If it is there,
you can direct WinAmp to use that folder from that location.

hmm. i dont see compatability anywhere in any of the options for the c:\mp3
folder.

by the way in case i didnt make it clear, winamp runs fine, it runs all the
mp3s perfectly in the folder, i just cant actualy open c:\mp3 in windows
explorer. If i rename c:\mp3 to c:\mp3s or c:\4439 or anything, i can open
the folder, but while it is called c:\mp3, i cannot open the folder in
windows explorer.
winamp still runs the songs that are in c:\mp3 from the playlist though.
ie, it runs fine, but if i want to drag a new song from c:\mp3 into the
playlist i cant, because i cant open the folder.

also, if i go into live search, and search for a song in c:\mp3, i can open
it. I just cant actualy open the folder itself in explorer.

Did you manually check the Virtual Store folder for a copy of that same MP3
folder?

If it is not there, I am out of ideas for this problem?

Yeah there is no copy of c:\mp3 in virtual store.

Any ideas how to completley stop everything from scanning a file, ie media
center? Its the only thing i can think of as to why renaming it allows me to
open it in explorer.

No idea how to do that, Media Center is tightly integrated in Vista.

Did the WinAmp program create the C:\MP3 folder? You might want to relocate
this folder into the C:\Users\Public folder and then tell WinAmp to use it
from there. This is a much less restricted location and should work better.

How about trying this:

Rename your current mp3 folder so you can open it.

Create a new folder named 'mp3' and see if Explorer can open that.

Move a few files into the new folder & see if it functions correctly.

If it does, continue moving your files.
