Is it possible to remove MP2 from the HD and also the
registry and then install a newer WMP version of player
rather than taking up space with BOTH?

Hi,
Just uninstall it from the Control Panel.
And then run the setup to install WMP.

What do you care about? file association?

This is the "system" version of the media player and I have
already tried to remove it via the control panel. Also,
have tried to manually delete all files from the WMP folder
and windows just restores them. Below is a listing of the
Windows Media Player folder from C: drive--
