Why? Something wrong with 1.6 that I haven't found? :)

They (moz.org) say that 1.7 will have the following improvements:

1. smaller total file size
2. faster starting
3. faster page loading

I use Ffox and Tbird as my defaults, but feel I really ought to use Moz
as the total footprint is smaller. However from Netscape onward I have
never been comfortable without a Homepage button on the toolbar. Have I
missed something or is it something you folks learn to live with? or
should that be live without.

Mozilla 1.7 can have a homepage button on the toolbar. (I have been
using 1.7b for several months.)

Edit > Preferences > Navigator > Select the buttons you want to see in
the toolbar: put checkmark in "Home"

The Moz footprint is smaller for now, but Firefox 0.9 will be much
smaller than 0.8, and I assume they are slimming down Tbird too.

This is Mozilla home not my homepage, isn't it?

No, you can set it to anything you want, including a blank page.
If you are talking about the 'personal toolbar' I can do that, but what
I originally meant was the main bar with the four big buttons.
Don't worry about it as I am having trouble with a number of websites
that don't render properly, or work at all even, on any of the Mozilla
family.
I am using MyIE2 for them (I have to, because they are concerned with my
work), and getting fed up with changing from one to the other :o(

Home Button by Reidar Djupvik

Many people have complained that the Home button of Mozilla is placed
on the Personal Toolbar. Here's my solution! This tiny download will
put a Home button in the Navigation Toolbar of Mozilla. Version: 0.6
Released: 2004-01-16 Size: 11KB For: Mozilla
